Webhook for reaction creation on issue comment

Is this planned for the near future? or is it integrated into the issue_comment event type?

Hi @shaharsol

Is this planned for the near future? or is it integrated into the issue_comment event type?

There are no webhook events for reactions currently (they’re not integrated into issue_comment events). Adding webhook events for reactions is on our wishlist, but I can’t say when exactly they might be available (it might not happen in the near future). I’d recommend following the main Developer blog for updates on this since it’s not really related to Integrations: https://developer.github.com/changes/

Thanks for expressing interest in these events – I’ll pass it along to the team!

I’d like to bump this. Reactions are great to have but collaborators are using them more and more as a means of communication, namely acknowledgement & agreement, in lieu of composing an actual comment or reply.

I remember asking @tarebyte about it last year. I recall that he was not optimistic about it, I guess it would put too much load on the servers. But he mentioned that an alternative might be to add an endpoint to pull reactions across entities, so that with a hourly cron job you could pull all reactions for the past hour

Adding my support for Reactions webhook events. I recently saw an interesting Discord bot that used Reactions added to specific messages as a way to create “buttons” (i.e. reacting with a trash can icon deleted the post while reacting with a recycle symbol refreshed the post’s time limit). I could see this being useful for letting users communicate with GitHub Apps in more structured ways.

This would be really useful. Similar to @aergonaut’s suggestion, Reactions can be used like buttons to trigger events.
